KBET was founded in Calcutta in 1995 with the goal to break the self - perpetuating cycle of poverty in urban slums by empowering women, children and weaker communities through education, health and economic independence. KBET's target group is based in Ranchi city, a vast area comprising of poor community members from all castes including minority, backward classes and some SC/ST clans. KBET's programs include non-formal education centres, tutorial centres, academic scholarships, health centres and training, income generation, micro-credit financing, vocational training, and capacity building.
Since 1996, KBET has implemented various projects in collaboration with Ranchi's slum communities. KBET works specifically with women and youth from all backgrounds. Example projects include non-formal education of school drop-outs to reintegrate them with public schools; vocational training of female youth in Zari embroidery; child healthcare training for slum women; and establishing over 100 women's self help groups with thrift credit facilities.
Most of KBET's staff and volunteers have worked with us for more than 10 years, and are experienced in project execution. KBET has a computerized system for accouning our expenses, and conducts annual audits through a chartered accountant. Based on prior work with international donors, KBET has developed a system for documenting and evaluating our activities, with project and annual reports submitted regularly.
